Dryad

I started this Spring 2017 and completed it in Summer 2017. I think it took about 4-5 months. The idea of the Dryad came about when I had seen photos of a friend who had a modelling shoot of herself partially covered in vines. These photos were taken in a forest by a lake and it gave me loads of inspiration. I started drawing and painting pictures of a new character, which I named 'Kalliste', who was the first 'Being' of Gaia. There have been different designs now. This one I'd say is the scariest I reckon. But you know what? It's a matter of opinion. Some find it scary, some find it beautiful. Some may see both. I see it like this. She's scary when necessary. When she has to fight! She is a tree spirit and one of Gaia's most fierce beings. This particular design has got to be the most organic-looking so far. So her entire being in this sculpture is clearly made of tree fibre. Instead of muscles, they are replaced by the wooden fibre of a tree. At least that's what I wanted to achieve!
