making of the taurian vs libran

The title of this spotlight revolves around two characters battling each other. The first character I want to discuss is the design of the ‘Taurian,’ which is a character heavily influenced of the Greek Mythological character ‘The Minotaur.’

It’s been a design that took me 18 years in getting right. Even now I still see flaws that i’d like to fix. That isn’t a problem though. The world of Gaia has evolved so much since it’s first idea.

So, the initial idea for the ‘Taurian’ was simply called the ‘Minotaur’ because I couldn’t think of anything else at the time. It was Autumn 2005 I think. It was pretty terrible.

In hindsight, I think that I had some good ideas, especially when it came to the skin textures and head design. What failed mostly was the proportions though. It was completely wrong.

The torso and legs were much too short. Something I used to do for some years, without really being aware of it whilst doing it. The head, hands and hooves were absolutely enormous! I find it kinda embaressing looking at it now. I can’t believe how bad it looks.

The thing is though, that actually means I’ve learnt a lot since then.
